who I am

My name is Dara. I am a stylist, blogger, world traveller and fellow beauty lover.

I was born and raised just outside of Vancouver BC. I spent most of my life concealing my love for hair and story telling. Until one year I couldn’t contain it anymore. I had moved to Montreal QC to finish my undergrad degree and was sitting in a starbucks registering for classes. I could see my future laid out for me. Endless papers and final exams. Always wondering if I would get enough financial aid to survive the next four months. When in the back of my head a voice that I had buried long ago said, “What about hair?” I was sold. I applied to the closest hair school and within weeks my life took a new direction.

I am lucky enough to be back in the city of Vancouver, a city I can’t help but love and a city where my feet feel at home. I cut, style, and colour hair at Zazou Salon and Academy in North Vancouver. My favourite part of my job is hearing the story of your beauty journey and how you see the world.

If you want to book me as a speaker for your next event, please do not hesitate to do so! I would love to help you out.

If you are looking for someone to connect with, send me an email. I’d love to hear your story.

I love the title of your blog. I’ve noticed the radical and fabulous hair is many of your photos and now I understand after reading your ‘who I am’.. How wonderful to discover your passion. When we lived in West Africa for 5 years (1981) we missionary women cut each others hair and it was pretty grim. Our greatest delight was when a hair stylist came for a short term to work at the school… she was a very popular lady.
